A former Governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, in a move that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

The development was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Mohammed, in a press statement made available to journalists in Kano.

According to the statement, the planned defection follows weeks of extensive consultations involving Kwankwaso, key members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, and top figures within the ADC.

Mohammed noted that the decision to align with the ADC was taken after careful consideration and was driven by what he described as “the best interest of the movement, the state, and the nation at large.”

Kwankwaso, a prominent political figure with a strong grassroots base, particularly in Kano State, has remained influential in national politics through the Kwankwasiyya Movement. His anticipated entry into the ADC is expected to significantly boost the party’s structure and visibility across the country.

Political observers believe the move could signal a broader realignment within Nigeria’s opposition space, as parties and key actors begin early positioning ahead of future electoral cycles.

The official defection ceremony is expected to take place on Monday, with supporters and political stakeholders closely watching what could mark a major shift in Nigeria’s political dynamics.
