Mascot Uzor Kalu has explained the reasons behind his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Abia State, saying the decision was made in the interest of party unity and stability.

In a personally signed statement released on Thursday, Kalu said his commitment to strengthening democratic values in Abia State and consolidating the structures of the APC remained stronger than any personal political ambition.

According to him, politics should be driven by service, sacrifice, and collective progress rather than desperation for political office.

The former governorship aspirant stated that after extensive consultations and careful reflection on recent developments within the party, he decided to step aside to preserve unity and strategic progress within the APC.

“The success and cohesion of the APC must always take precedence over individual aspirations,” Kalu stated.

He added that true leadership is not only about seeking power but also about making sacrifices that would strengthen the party and maintain harmony among members.

Kalu further pledged continued support for the leadership of the APC and reaffirmed his readiness to work with party stakeholders toward building a stronger and more united political structure ahead of future elections.

The politician also expressed gratitude to his supporters, friends, and loyal followers across Abia State and beyond for their support throughout his political journey.

“Together, we remain resolute, focused, and optimistic. By the grace of God, we shall continue to contribute meaningfully to the progress of our party and engage again at the appropriate time,” he said.

His withdrawal comes amid heightened political activities within the APC in Abia State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
