Eric Opah Wins Abia APC Governorship Primary Election Ahead of 2027 Poll
Eric Opah has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general election.
Opah secured a landslide victory in the party’s primary election after polling 126,977 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Henry Ikoh, who scored 5,905 votes.
The results were announced on Thursday night at the APC secretariat in Umuahia by the chairman of the Abia State Governorship Election Committee and returning officer, Hon. Bartho Lalong.
Lalong described the primary election as peaceful, free, and credible, praising party members and aspirants for maintaining decorum throughout the exercise. He added that Opah satisfied all constitutional and electoral requirements of the party and was therefore duly elected as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Following the announcement, Opah was presented with a certificate of return as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming governorship contest in Abia State.
The victory comes days after the APC dismissed rumours alleging that Opah had been disqualified from participating in the governorship primary. The party had earlier described the reports as false and reaffirmed that the aspirant remained qualified for the race.
Political observers believe the emergence of Opah signals the APC’s renewed effort to strengthen its chances in Abia State as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
