Wike’s Ally, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda Emerges APC Governorship Candidate in Rivers
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has declared Ogundu Kingsley Chinda as the party’s governorship candidate following the conclusion of its primary election held across the state’s 23 local government areas.
The announcement was made on Thursday evening at the APC secretariat after the collation of results from various wards and local government areas.
According to the Chairman of the APC Governorship Screening Committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, Chinda secured a total of 268,497 votes to emerge victorious in the exercise.
Kwamoti described the primary election as peaceful, transparent, and successful, while commending party members and officials for maintaining order throughout the process.
The emergence of Ogundu Kingsley Chinda is already generating political reactions within Rivers State, particularly due to his reported political ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Political observers believe Chinda’s victory could further reshape the political landscape in Rivers State ahead of the next governorship election, especially amid ongoing alignments and rivalries among key political stakeholders in the state.
Party supporters who gathered at the APC secretariat celebrated the announcement, expressing optimism that the party would mount a strong challenge in the forthcoming election.
The APC leadership is yet to release an official statement detailing the next phase of the party’s campaign activities following the conclusion of the primary.
