Okowa Defeats Ned Nwoko to Secure APC Delta North Senatorial Ticket for 2027
Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections after defeating businessman and politician, Ned Nwoko, in a closely monitored party primary.
Okowa recorded a sweeping victory in the contest, polling 113,309 votes to defeat Nwoko, who secured 2,612 votes.
The result marks a major political comeback for the former governor, who recently aligned with the APC following years in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Party officials announced the outcome after collation of votes across the Delta North Senatorial District, with Okowa’s supporters celebrating the victory as a significant boost for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections in Delta State.
Political observers say the victory further strengthens Okowa’s influence in Delta politics and positions him as one of the leading figures expected to shape the APC’s fortunes in the South-South region during the next election cycle.
Nwoko, who currently represents Delta North in the Senate, is yet to officially react to the outcome of the primary election.
The APC is expected to intensify preparations for the general elections as parties begin consolidating their structures and candidates across the country.
