APC Lokoja I Crisis: Group Rejects Consensus Endorsement, Demands Fair 2027 Primaries

A political pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC Progressive Patriots in Lokoja I State Constituency, has raised concerns over what it described as an alleged attempt to impose a consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a press statement signed by Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed, the group commended Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, for maintaining neutrality in the constituency’s political affairs, noting that his approach reinforces democratic values within the party.

The group also praised former governor Yahaya Bello for fostering inclusiveness and internal democracy during his tenure, which it said laid a strong foundation for unity within the APC in Kogi State.

However, the group expressed “deep concern” over reports of a purported consensus endorsement of the incumbent lawmaker representing Lokoja I State Constituency, Shehu Ebaiya, allegedly being promoted by a party leader identified as Alfa Imam.

According to the statement, any attempt to impose a candidate under the guise of consensus undermines fairness, transparency, and the democratic principles of the party.

“The constituency is not a private estate of any individual or group,” the statement read, warning that such moves could disenfranchise loyal party members who have the right to contest.

The APC Progressive Patriots called on party leadership at all levels to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, stressing the need for free, fair, and credible primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group further noted what it described as growing dissatisfaction among constituents regarding the performance of the incumbent lawmaker, adding that voters in Lokoja I are determined to pursue change through democratic means.

It urged stakeholders to prioritize unity and the collective interest of the party, warning that only credible internal processes would sustain APC’s electoral strength in the state.
