2027: NDI-ABAT Warns Peter Obi Over Alleged Parallel Election Result Platform

ABUJA — The NdIgbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT) has warned former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi over what it described as plans to establish a parallel election result viewing platform and alternative transmission structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on September 10, 2027, the group argued that the constitutional and statutory responsibility for conducting and managing Nigeria’s elections rests with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NDI-ABAT said any attempt by political actors, individuals or private organisations to create an electoral results system outside INEC’s established framework could undermine confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.

The group maintained that Nigerians have the right to advocate for credible elections and participate in electoral discussions but argued that political movements cannot assume the statutory responsibilities assigned to INEC.

“NDI-ABAT calls on INEC to remain firm, independent, and committed to delivering a free, fair, transparent, and credible 2027 general election.”

The forum specifically criticised any proposed separate result-viewing portal or unofficial transmission channel that operates outside INEC’s authorised electoral framework.

According to the group, such an arrangement could create confusion and raise questions about the authority of officially declared election results.

NDI-ABAT Reviews Obi, Utomi’s Alleged Electoral Plans

NDI-ABAT also disclosed that its legal team had commenced a review of public statements and reported actions involving Peter Obi and Professor Pat Utomi in connection with the proposed electoral platform.

The forum said it would consider appropriate legal action if it concludes that the activities violate Nigeria’s electoral laws.

The group did not provide details of any court action already filed.

NDI-ABAT further expressed concern about statements attributed to Obi regarding his willingness to make personal sacrifices for the 2027 election.

The pro-Tinubu group argued that such comments could heighten political tension and potentially encourage extreme reactions among supporters.

It called on political leaders, particularly opposition figures, to exercise restraint and respect Nigeria’s democratic institutions throughout the electoral process.

Group Calls for Transparent 2027 Election

NDI-ABAT urged INEC to ensure that the 2027 general elections are conducted in accordance with the Constitution, electoral laws and established procedures.

The forum said the outcome of the election should be determined through a transparent process administered by the country’s recognised electoral institutions rather than through alternative structures established by political actors.

“Democracy is preserved when institutions are respected. Nigeria cannot afford a situation where political desperation replaces constitutional order,” the group said.

NDI-ABAT reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while simultaneously calling for an electoral process that it said must meet high standards of credibility, fairness and transparency.

The statement was signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, National Coordinator, and Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., Secretary General.
