Supreme Court Fixes Judgement Day for ADC, PDP Leadership Disputes

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed a date to deliver judgment in the leadership disputes rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The apex court, which had earlier reserved judgment in the matter, announced on Wednesday that it would deliver its verdict in the ADC case by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The ADC had previously petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, urging an expedited ruling, citing urgency and the need to resolve the lingering leadership crisis.

According to court records, the ADC case, marked SC/CV/180/2026, has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m., while no specific time has been disclosed for the PDP matter.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier issued a significant ruling affecting the ADC leadership tussle.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising any state congresses conducted by committees set up by the David Mark-led caretaker leadership of the ADC.

The court held that only duly constituted state executive committees have the authority to conduct such congresses, not the national leadership.

It further ruled that the tenure of the ADC’s State Working Committees and State Executive Committees, which runs for four years, remains valid and subsisting pending the conduct of properly constituted congresses and a national convention.

The Supreme Court’s forthcoming judgment is expected to have far-reaching implications for internal party leadership structures and Nigeria’s broader political landscape.
