Amaechi Blasts ADC Primary, Rejects ‘Concocted’ Presidential Results
Former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement during the exercise.
In a statement released after the primaries, Amaechi described the announced results as “concocted” and insisted that the process failed to meet the standards of transparency and fairness expected by party members and Nigerians.
According to him, he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the election if the process was free, fair, and transparent.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi stated.
“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word.”
The former Rivers State governor claimed that a large percentage of party members were allegedly prevented from participating in the exercise.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.
Amaechi further argued that the ADC was created to provide Nigerians with an alternative political platform built on justice, inclusion, and accountability, stressing that the party must not repeat the same electoral practices it criticises in other parties.
He accused political actors within the party of engaging in practices such as vote buying, manipulation of results, and other forms of electoral malpractice.
“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices that leads to the disenfranchisement of voters who are party members,” he added.
“This is not acceptable.”
The development has sparked fresh concerns about internal democracy within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
