Skales Questions Military Recruitment Drive Amid Poor Treatment of Soldiers

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has voiced his concerns over recent calls by government officials and various groups urging Nigerian youths to join the military.

Responding to the campaign via his official X handle, @youngskales, Skales questioned the rationale behind the calls, pointing out that Nigeria does not honour or adequately care for its military personnel.

“Nigeria don’t honor its hero’s and them dey ask you to join soldier … meanwhile soldiers dey suffer lol,” he wrote.

His comments sparked mixed reactions, with some users accusing him of discouraging patriotic service. An X user, @kheeng_diamond, criticized him for dissuading willing youths, stating, “You don’t want to serve the country and you are also discouraging those that want to? Stop viewing reality from your own perspective alone.”

Skales, however, maintained his stance, responding, “lol I’m representing my country with music na … how much dem dey pay soldier again wey dey risk their live for all of us? Go join na.”
