Nollywood Filmmaker Stanley Amandi Arrested Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu – Report
Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to violently overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to a report by Premium Times.
Amandi, a film director and former Chairman of the Enugu State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), was reportedly arrested in September 2025, though his alleged involvement in the plot has only now been made public.
Alleged Role as Propagandist
Premium Times reported that Amandi was allegedly recruited as a propagandist by a group of military officers accused of planning the coup. The publication said the actor was hired to help shape propaganda narratives ahead of the planned takeover.
Investigators reportedly believe the alleged plotters intended to use coordinated messaging to justify the violent overthrow of the government and destabilise the country.
Amandi’s last Instagram post, dated September 19, 2025, came shortly before his arrest, after which he has remained silent on social media.
Plot Allegedly Targeted Top Government Officials
According to government sources briefed on the investigation and cited by Premium Times, the alleged coup plot involved plans to assassinate several top government officials, including:
- President Bola Tinubu
- Vice President Kashim Shettima
- Senate President Godswill Akpabio
- Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas
The sources said the officers behind the plot marked senior political leaders for elimination as part of a planned violent takeover.
Defence Headquarters Confirms Investigation
On Monday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed the existence of an alleged plan to illegally remove the Tinubu administration.
In a statement, the military said investigations into the indicted officers have been completed and forwarded to the “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”
The DHQ added that the affected officers will be arraigned before military judicial panels.
According to the statement, the probe was “comprehensive” and conducted in accordance with established military procedures, examining “all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.”
First Public Disclosure of Actor’s Arrest
This marks the first time Stanley Amandi’s alleged role in the reported coup plot has been publicly disclosed. As of the time of filing this report, neither Amandi nor the Actors Guild of Nigeria has issued an official statement on the matter.
The military has also not publicly detailed the specific charges against the civilian suspects linked to the case.
