NDI-ABAT Raises Alarm Over ADC Crisis, Claims Peter Obi May Switch Party Ahead of 2027 Election
Abuja, Nigeria — A socio-political group, NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT), has alleged that Peter Obi is preparing to exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and align with a new political platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a press statement dated April 4, 2026, jointly signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, National Coordinator and Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., Secretary General the group said it had received “credible intelligence” suggesting that the former Anambra State governor could formally resign from the ADC before the end of April and subsequently join a new party in May, where he is expected to emerge as the sole presidential candidate.
The statement also referenced Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that evolving electoral developments may be influencing ongoing political realignments.
NDI-ABAT further claimed that Atiku Abubakar may remain within the ADC to challenge internal leadership disputes, particularly those involving David Mark, whose position as a party leader is reportedly subject to legal scrutiny.
According to the group, the outcome of pending cases at the Supreme Court could shape the opposition’s strategy ahead of 2027, including the possibility of a united front backing Obi’s anticipated new platform.
The group used the opportunity to advise Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint key political allies to spearhead his re-election campaign.

David Umahi (Southeast)
Nyesom Wike (South-South)
Bello Matawalle (Northwest)
The forum described the four as “trusted allies” capable of strengthening the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and preventing internal divisions.
NDI-ABAT also cautioned against a repeat of the political scenario that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election, alleging that internal party dynamics played a role in that outcome.
The group emphasized the need for unity within the APC and coordination with party governors nationwide to secure President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
NDI-ABAT concluded by urging the president to take proactive steps, stressing that the political developments ahead of 2027 could significantly shape Nigeria’s future.
