BREAKING: Obi, Makinde meet behind closed doors ahead of 2027 elections
A former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is currently in a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as part of ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, taking place at the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan, is seen as part of Obi’s broader strategy to build alliances across key political blocs nationwide.
Obi, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is reportedly seeking the party’s presidential ticket in a proposed joint arrangement with former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Sources indicate that Obi arrived at the meeting accompanied by a delegation of Igbo elders, lawmakers from the South-East, and close political associates.
The engagement with Makinde follows a series of high-level consultations by Obi in recent weeks. He has previously met with former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Political observers say the meeting with Makinde, a key figure in the opposition space, could signal efforts to forge a broader coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
While details of the discussion remain undisclosed, the closed-door nature of the meeting underscores the sensitive political calculations currently shaping alliances ahead of the polls.
