Salah Shines as Egypt Eliminate Holders to Book AFCON 2025 Semi-Final Date with Senegal
Mohamed Salah delivered a captain’s performance as Egypt defeated defending champions Côte d’Ivoire 3–2 in a dramatic quarter-final of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs struck early through Omar Marmoush in the 4th minute, before Ramy Rabia doubled the lead with a header from a Salah corner on 32 minutes.
Côte d’Ivoire pulled one back via an own goal just before half-time, but Salah restored Egypt’s two-goal cushion early in the second half, scoring his fourth goal of the tournament.
A late strike from Guéla Doué set up a tense finish, but Egypt held firm to seal qualification.
Egypt will now face Senegal in the semi-finals on Wednesday in Tangier, while the other last-four clash will see Morocco take on Nigeria in Rabat.
