Morocco vs Cameroon: Atlas Lions Win 2–0 to Reach AFCON 2025 Semi-Finals
Morocco have booked their place in the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 after a convincing 2–0 victory over Cameroon in Rabat on Sunday night.
Playing in front of a passionate home crowd, the Atlas Lions delivered a composed and assured performance, scoring in either half to overcome a resilient Cameroonian side in a fiercely contested quarter-final clash.
The breakthrough came in the first half when Brahim Díaz reacted quickest inside the six-yard box. The Real Madrid midfielder pounced after a corner was delivered and recycled by Ayoub El Kaabi, firing a precise left-footed shot into the bottom left corner to give Morocco a deserved lead.
Cameroon emerged stronger after the interval, pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser and testing Morocco’s defensive resolve. However, Walid Regragui’s men remained patient and disciplined, absorbing pressure before striking decisively again.
The second goal arrived in the latter stages of the match as Ismaël Saibari produced a moment of brilliance. The PSV midfielder drove a left-footed effort from the left side of the penalty area into the bottom right corner, following a well-worked set-piece assisted by Nayef Aguerd, effectively sealing the contest.
The victory was built on control, tactical intelligence and belief — trademarks of Regragui’s Morocco — as the Atlas Lions finally ended their AFCON knockout struggles against Cameroon, doing so emphatically on home soil.
Cameroon exit the tournament with pride after a disciplined and courageous display, but it is Morocco who take another decisive step forward in their quest for continental glory.
Morocco now advance to the semi-finals, keeping their AFCON dream alive and sending a strong message to the rest of the continent in front of a jubilant Rabat crowd.
