Arsenal Reach Champions League Semi-Finals, Bayern Munich Knock Out Real Madrid in Thriller
Arsenal have booked their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after a tense 0-0 draw against Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium secured a 1-0 aggregate victory.
Mikel Arteta’s side came into the second leg with a narrow advantage following Kai Havertz’s decisive goal in Portugal, and they did just enough to see off a determined Sporting side in London.
Despite dominating possession early on, Arsenal struggled to convert chances, while Sporting threatened on the counter. Francisco Trincão and Pedro Gonçalves tested the Gunners’ defence, while Geny Catamo struck the post in the first half after a well-delivered cross from Maxi Araújo.
Goalkeeper David Raya was also forced into action following a misplaced pass that nearly gifted the visitors an opener.
The tension grew inside the Emirates as Arsenal, still reeling from a recent Premier League defeat, defended their slender lead. Sporting pushed for a breakthrough in the second half, with Araújo missing a key chance from inside the box.
Arsenal nearly sealed victory late on when substitute Leandro Trossard hit the post with a header, but the goalless draw was enough to send the Gunners into back-to-back semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.
They will now face Atlético Madrid for a place in the final.
Bayern Edge Real Madrid in Seven-Goal Classic
In Germany, Bayern Munich produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat Real Madrid 4-3 at the Allianz Arena, sealing a 6-4 aggregate win and ending the Spanish giants’ campaign.
The quarter-final clash delivered high drama, including a controversial red card for Eduardo Camavinga late in the match after a challenge on Harry Kane.
Arda Güler starred for Madrid with two goals, while Kylian Mbappé also found the net in a frenetic first half.
Bayern responded through Aleksandar Pavlović and Kane, before late goals from Luis Díaz and Michael Olise sealed the victory.
The game ended in controversy as Madrid players confronted referee Slavko Vinčić, with Güler later shown a red card for dissent.
The result sees Bayern reach the semi-finals for the 14th time, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.
The defeat marks back-to-back quarter-final exits for Real Madrid, a rare occurrence for the 15-time European champions.
