Guinness World Records Confirms Hilda Baci’s Largest Pot of Jollof Rice Feat
Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially confirmed that Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has set a new record for cooking the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.
The culinary star achieved the feat last Friday at Victoria Island, Lagos, where she prepared an astonishing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz) of jollof rice.
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria,” GWR announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
According to Hilda, the attempt required nine hours of intense cooking, teamwork, and passion, supported by 1,200 kilograms of gas. In line with Guinness guidelines that prohibit food waste, all 16,600 plates of rice were distributed to attendees and community members.
The event drew thousands of supporters who gathered to cheer her on, with music performances and food vendors adding to the festive atmosphere.
Reflecting on her achievement, Hilda Baci said:
“I didn’t realise it would be this hard. It has been a challenge, but really satisfying to achieve the record. This achievement also belongs to the people of Nigeria as they all contributed to the success.”
Hilda first rose to global prominence in 2023, when she set the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, cementing her place as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated culinary talents.
