Hilda Baci, the Nigerian chef famed for her Guinness World Record cook-a-thon feat, has embarked on a new historic challenge cooking the world’s biggest pot of Jollof rice.

The record-breaking attempt was flagged off today by Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Center, Lagos, who prayed and officially declared the festival open.

Baci’s ambitious target is to prepare about 250 bags of rice in a single pot, creating what could become the largest Jollof rice dish ever made.

The atmosphere at the venue has been electric, with celebrities, food enthusiasts, and everyday Nigerians pouring in to lend their support. Organisers announced a last-minute change of location, moving the event from Muri Okunola Park to the more spacious Eko Hotel car park to accommodate the scale of the festival and its growing audience.

Beyond the Guinness World Record attempt, the celebration has been designed as a cultural extravaganza. Attendees will enjoy food exhibitions, cultural showcases, live entertainment, and immersive experiences highlighting Jollof rice as more than just a meal but a unifying symbol of identity, resilience, and community across West Africa.

This event marks not only Baci’s continued pursuit of culinary excellence but also Nigeria’s enduring love affair with Jollof rice, a dish that has long been at the heart of cultural pride and friendly rivalry across the region.
