The Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) has strongly condemned the recent acts of cyber forgery and ethnic incitement targeted at the Nigerian Army and its spokesperson in the South East, Lt Col Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni.
In a statement released on Monday, the Guild accused certain social media users identified as Adaigboglobal on Facebook and Harry Da Diegot by Trigottista on X (formerly Twitter) of deliberately manipulating and falsifying official information issued by the Nigerian Army.

The doctored content falsely claimed that recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) originated from Lagos and Oyo States rather than Imo State.

GPBN described the actions as reckless and dangerous, noting that the perpetrators went further to label Lt. Col. Ayeni as a “Yoruba fake news merchant,” a statement the Guild says is defamatory and capable of inciting ethnic tension across the country.

According to the Guild, “Such deliberate misinformation amounts to cyber forgery, cyberbullying, and treasonable conduct capable of undermining national unity and security.”
The Guild called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to immediately investigate, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.

GPBN emphasized that such acts constitute corrupt practices that threaten the credibility of Nigeria’s digital media space and weaken public trust in official communications.

The Guild also commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism and resilience in the face of ongoing security challenges. It noted that the military has continued to demonstrate discipline, transparency, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

Highlighting the reputation of Lt. Col. Ayeni, GPBN described him as a seasoned and respected officer known for his integrity, humility, and strong engagement with the media. The Guild added that his role in fostering trust between the military and the public has made him a widely respected figure nationwide.
“The attempt to malign his character is not only unjust but a direct attack on credible information channels that support national stability,” the statement added.

The Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against misinformation, particularly content designed to incite division and conflict.
