Court Jails Eight Chinese For Cyberterrorism

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of eight Chinese nationals for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud before a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos
They are among the syndicate of 792 alleged cryptocurrency investment and romance fraud suspects arrested in December 2024 in Lagos.
They were arraigned by the EFCC on separate charges bordering on cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.
They initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, however, during Friday’s sitting, they all changed their plea to “guilty, which led to prosecution counsel, Bashir to prayed the court to convict them.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke convicted and sentenced the defendants to one year imprisonment, with a fine of One Million Naira each.
The court also ordered that upon completion of their sentencing, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, should ensure that they are repatriated to their country of origin within seven days.
Justice Aneke also ordered the forfeiture of the items recovered from them to the Federal Government.
