Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, a move that has intensified political discussions across the state.

According to multiple reports published on Wednesday, the Rivers governor stepped down from the race following consultations within the APC leadership and growing internal political tensions in the state.

The development comes amid the lingering political crisis involving Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, whose rivalry has continued to shape Rivers politics.

Withdrawal Linked to Party Unity

Reports indicate that Fubara’s withdrawal was connected to efforts by the APC leadership to maintain unity within the party ahead of the governorship primaries.

A statement attributed to the governor suggested that the decision followed “extensive consultations” with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders.

The Rivers governor reportedly pledged support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Political Tensions in Rivers Continue

The latest development is another chapter in the prolonged Rivers State political crisis that began after disagreements between Fubara and Wike.

Earlier reports had suggested that influential APC figures were divided over Fubara’s possible re-election bid, with some party leaders backing him while others remained opposed.

Political analysts believe the governor’s withdrawal may significantly alter the power dynamics ahead of the APC primary in Rivers State.

Fubara’s Political Journey

Fubara, who previously belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), later aligned with the APC amid the political restructuring in Rivers State.

He has remained one of the most talked-about political figures in Nigeria following the emergency rule crisis in Rivers and his subsequent reinstatement as governor.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC leadership in Rivers State has yet to release a detailed official statement regarding the governor’s withdrawal.
