FG Opens Applications for N1bn MSME Grants April 7
The Federal Government has announced that applications for over N1 billion in grants under the 2026 National MSME Awards will open on April 7.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, disclosed this during a media briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the application portal would remain open until May 7, urging Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country to take advantage of the opportunity.
Adekunle-Johnson explained that the 2026 edition, themed “Renewed Hope for MSMEs,” would prioritise direct financial support to businesses, marking a departure from previous editions that offered physical assets such as cars, houses and shops.
According to him, the Federal Government, with support from development partners, plans to disburse up to N1 billion in grants aimed at boosting business growth and sustainability.
“This year, we are focusing more on funding, giving grants that can directly support and grow MSME businesses,” he said.
He added that the new approach would ensure broader distribution of financial rewards across multiple categories, with more beneficiaries receiving support beyond the top three winners.
The presidential aide further noted that successful applicants would benefit from structured mentorship programmes coordinated by relevant government agencies, including post-award support such as business advisory services and access to new markets.
He also revealed that outstanding MSMEs could be sponsored to participate in international exhibitions, thereby expanding their global reach.
Adekunle-Johnson said the awards would recognise excellence in innovation, creativity, employment generation and the use of technology in business operations.
He acknowledged challenges recorded in previous editions, particularly the submission of poor-quality applications, and assured that efforts were being intensified to improve awareness and encourage serious participation nationwide.
The grand finale of the awards, he said, is scheduled for June 27 to coincide with the United Nations World MSME Day.
Also speaking, a representative of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mrs Sarah Ajayi, disclosed that about 12 categories would be featured, covering key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, textiles, innovation, creative industries, and beauty and wellness.
Ajayi stressed that regulatory compliance would play a crucial role in the selection process, urging applicants to submit complete documentation, including tax records, certifications and necessary approvals.
She added that participants must provide high-quality video presentations showcasing their production processes and value addition.
Stakeholders at the briefing also pledged support for the initiative, assuring collaboration to ensure transparency, credibility and effective post-award mentorship aimed at strengthening MSMEs across Nigeria.
