Tinubu Honours Super Falcons with National Awards, $100,000 and Apartments After Historic WAFCON Win
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours and generous rewards on members of the Super Falcons following their triumphant campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria claimed a record-extending 10th title.
At a special reception held at the State Banquet Hall in the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu awarded each of the 24 players the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). In addition to the prestigious titles, each player will receive a $100,000 cash reward and a three-bedroom apartment.
Members of the technical crew were also not left out. Each member of the coaching and backroom staff was awarded $50,000, along with national recognition for their contribution to Nigeria’s football success.
During the emotional ceremony, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade and vice captain Chiamaka Nnadozie formally presented the WAFCON trophy to President Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, to the applause of dignitaries and supporters in attendance.
President Tinubu praised the team’s courage, discipline, and patriotism, describing them as “national heroes who have once again shown the world the indomitable spirit of Nigerian women.”
“You have not only made history, you have made the country proud,” he said. “This is your moment, and Nigeria will never forget it.”
Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 win over hosts Morocco in the final on Saturday night sealed the team’s dominance in African women’s football and cemented their place as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
