The Super Falcons of Nigeria have kicked off their TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in style, thrashing Tunisia 3-0 in their Group B opener on Sunday at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
Asisat Oshoala set the tone early with a powerful header in the fourth minute, courtesy of Omorinsola Babajide’s precise cross.
The Super Falcons maintained their dominance throughout the first half, pinning Tunisia deep with relentless pressure and wide play.
Babajide doubled the lead just before halftime, latching onto a pass and burying her shot into the bottom corner, which was confirmed after a brief VAR review.
The nine-time African champions continued to assert their authority in the second half, with Chinwendu Ihezuo sealing the win with a cool finish in the 84th minute, assisted by Esther Okoronkwo.
The victory sees Nigeria top Group B heading into their next fixture, while Tunisia will need to regroup quickly to stand a chance of reaching the knockout stages.
The Super Falcons’ pace, physicality, and experience proved too much for a youthful Tunisian side, marking a commanding display that sets a strong tone for their title bid.
Nigeria, who had not won their opening WAFCON match since 2016, were eager to stamp their authority early—and they did so with a commanding display.
