AFCON 2025 MATCH DAY 6: Super Eagles Soar Into AFCON Last 16 With 3–2 Win Over Tunisia

The Super Eagles of Nigeria booked their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after edging Tunisia 3–2 in a pulsating Group C encounter played in Fez, Morocco.

Nigeria delivered a commanding attacking performance, with Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman all on the scoresheet, before holding off a late Tunisian resurgence to secure a crucial victory.

The Super Eagles took a deserved lead just before half-time when Victor Osimhen struck in the 44th minute, finishing clinically from a pinpoint cross by Ademola Lookman to send Nigeria into the break 1–0 ahead.

Nigeria doubled their advantage early in the second half as captain Wilfred Ndidi rose highest to power a header into the net in the 50th minute, following a well-delivered set piece. The goal firmly swung momentum Nigeria’s way and left Tunisia struggling to cope.

The pressure told again in the 67th minute when Ademola Lookman capped a flowing team move with a composed finish, making it 3–0 and putting the Super Eagles firmly in control.

Tunisia, however, mounted a late comeback. Montassar Talbi reduced the deficit with a header in the 74th minute, before Ali Abdi converted a penalty in the 87th minute to set up a tense finale.

Despite the late pressure, Nigeria remained resolute to see out the match and claim all three points.

The victory takes Nigeria to six points from two matches, virtually guaranteeing qualification for the knockout phase of AFCON 2025 and providing a major morale boost ahead of the decisive stages of the tournament. Tunisia, meanwhile, must now rely on other results to keep their hopes of progression alive in Group C.
