The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has expressed strong displeasure over reports of a fracas and alleged physical attacks on fans during and after the Matchday 20 fixture between Remo Stars and Ikorodu City in Ikenne.

In a statement issued on Friday, Davidson Owumi, Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, said the league was particularly concerned that the alleged incidents occurred despite a prior reconciliation meeting involving top officials of both clubs.

Reacting to what the league described as disturbing video evidence from the match venue, the NPFL announced that it has summoned both clubs to an investigative hearing.

“In the light of the reports and video evidence that are in our possession, the NPFL is inviting the two clubs to an investigative hearing on Monday, January 19, at our office in Abuja,” the statement read.

Owumi explained that the purpose of the hearing is to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the incident and to ensure that the league’s rules are applied appropriately.

He added that sanctions would be imposed on any individual or club found culpable after the investigation, reaffirming the NPFL’s commitment to ensuring safety, order, and professionalism across league venues.

The incident has renewed concerns over crowd control and security at NPFL matches, with the league reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on violence involving fans, players, or officials.
