Meta’s Standoff with FCCPC: Nwankama Calls For Negotiation Over $220m Fine
A prominent Nigerian blogger and social media influencer, Bonaventure Asonye Nwankama, has called on Meta to engage in talks with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) over the tech giant’s threat to shut down Facebook and Instagram in Nigeria.
Speaking on AIT’s “Kakaki” TV program, Nwankama emphasized the need for Meta to find common ground with the regulatory body, rather than opting for a shutdown that would impact millions of Nigerian users.
The FCCPC had imposed a $220 million fine on Meta, prompting the company’s threat to suspend its services in the country.
