Governor Otti Commissions $35 Million Beverage Plant in Aba
Governor Alex Otti has commissioned a $35 million beverage production facility in Aba, marking a significant industrial development in Abia State.
The plant, owned by Ultimum Beverages Limited—a subsidiary of Kadji Group—is located in the Osisioma industrial area of Aba. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to serve markets across Africa while creating employment opportunities for local residents.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Otti described the project as a landmark investment and a strong signal of Abia’s improving business climate. He noted that his administration’s reforms in security, infrastructure, and investor support played a key role in attracting the project.
Otti, who assumed office in May 2023 under the Labour Party, highlighted ongoing infrastructure efforts, including road upgrades pledged in July 2025, as part of broader measures to make the state more business-friendly. He also revealed that the investment could expand to $100 million in the near future.
The beverage plant was reportedly completed within 10 months, underscoring what officials described as an efficient project execution timeline.
However, reactions to the development have been mixed. Supporters of the governor have praised the commissioning as evidence of a growing industrial revival in Abia State, particularly in Aba, long regarded as a commercial hub.
Critics, on the other hand, argue that the project is a private sector initiative, emphasizing that the governor’s role was largely ceremonial. They also point to similar industrial investments in other Nigerian states such as Ogun State, Lagos State, and Osun State, suggesting that such developments are not unique to Abia.
Despite the differing views, the commissioning highlights ongoing efforts to boost manufacturing and attract foreign investment into Nigeria’s southeastern region.
