Wike Denies ADC Claim Over Eagle Square, Insists No Application Was Submitted
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it was denied access to Eagle Square for its National Convention.
Speaking on Monday during a project inspection tour in Abuja, Wike described the claims as “unfounded” and accused the party of attempting to gain public sympathy.
According to the minister, no formal application was received from the ADC or any other group regarding the use of the venue.

Wike stressed that Eagle Square remains open to all organizations willing to follow due process, which includes submitting a formal request and paying the required fees.
“We do not deny access; these events actually generate revenue for the government. Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development,” he said.
“If it is the African Democratic Congress, such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy.”
He explained that all applications for the use of Eagle Square must go through the Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL), the agency responsible for managing the facility.
Stadium Not Under FCTA Control
The minister also clarified that the Velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium is not under the control of the FCT Administration but rather managed by the National Sports Commission (NSC).
He noted that previous political parties, including the APC and PDP, followed due process in securing venues for their events.
Wike Addresses Kugbo Bus Terminal Concerns
Beyond the venue controversy, Wike moved to calm public concerns over recent reports of structural damage at the Kugbo Bus Terminal.
He explained that the incident was caused by a severe windstorm that affected the roofing sheets due to the terminal’s elevated location. However, he assured residents that the structure remains intact and safe.
Repairs are already underway, and the minister emphasized that no lives were lost, urging the public to disregard reports suggesting a collapse.
Updates on Ongoing Projects
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT, announcing that:
- Road projects are expected to be completed by May 15
- Installation of streetlights will be finalized by May 31
He also visited the Wassa artisan site, a facility designed to relocate mechanics and informal sector operators into a structured environment.
According to the minister, the relocation plan promised by previous administrations is now being implemented, with modalities already in progress.
