The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has announced a new job vacancy for the position of National Human Resources Assistant in Abuja.

According to the vacancy announcement, the position is open to qualified Nigerian candidates with experience in human resources management and administrative support. The role comes with a 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.

About the Role

The National Human Resources Assistant will support the smooth implementation of HR activities within the FAO Representation in Nigeria.

Working under the supervision of the FAO Representative, the successful candidate will assist with recruitment processes, contract management, consultant administration, performance evaluations, and other HR-related tasks.

The position also involves supporting a respectful workplace culture and promoting collaboration, learning, and innovation within the office.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating hiring plans for national and international affiliate workforce
  • Reviewing Terms of Reference (TORs) for consultants and affiliate staff
  • Managing job vacancy publications and candidate attraction processes
  • Organizing interviews and supporting selection panels
  • Managing contracts through the Global Resource Management System (GRMS)
  • Monitoring contract validity, renewals, and terminations
  • Supporting consultant payment processes and administrative duties
  • Assisting with performance evaluations and HR reporting
  • Maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A university degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Management, or related fields
  • At least two years of relevant HR experience
  • Strong written and spoken English skills
  • Nigerian nationality
