The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has opened applications for the position of National Communications Officer (Social Media) in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen its digital presence and public engagement in Nigeria.

Role Overview
IOM said the role is critical in managing its growing digital footprint in Nigeria, where social media plays a major role in shaping public opinion, especially among young people.
The selected candidate will support the Communications Unit in managing IOM Nigeria’s social media platforms, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging content across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Working under the supervision of the Chief of Communications, the officer will also help monitor misinformation, track trends, and safeguard the organisation’s reputation in a fast-paced digital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and update IOM Nigeria’s social media platforms daily
- Publish and schedule posts in line with communication strategies
- Develop social media calendars around key events and campaigns
- Monitor online conversations, trends, and reputational risks
- Support thematic campaigns and digital storytelling initiatives
- Collaborate with content teams to deploy multimedia content
- Track performance metrics such as reach, engagement, and growth
- Coordinate with field offices for timely updates and content
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Digital Media, Marketing, International Relations, or a related field.
A minimum of three years’ experience in social media management is required, preferably within Nigeria, along with proven ability to manage multiple platforms and analyze performance metrics.
Candidates should also demonstrate strong writing skills, digital literacy, and the ability to respond quickly to emerging trends and sensitive issues online.
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Nigerian languages, including Pidgin, is considered an added advantage.
