Abuja, Nigeria – International humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, has announced a vacancy for the position of Field Communications Manager, with applications open until June 16, 2026.

The role, based in Abuja, will support MSF’s medical humanitarian operations across Nigeria by developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives, strengthening media engagement, and increasing public awareness of humanitarian crises and health challenges affecting vulnerable populations.

According to the organization, the successful candidate will be part of the operational communications department and will work closely with mission leadership to oversee communication strategies, media relations, content production, and digital engagement efforts.

Key Responsibilities

The Field Communications Manager will be responsible for:

• Developing and implementing communication strategies that support MSF’s humanitarian activities in Nigeria.
• Managing relationships with national and international media organizations.
• Supervising the press officer, social media officer, and multimedia officer.
• Producing press releases, multimedia content, social media materials, and crisis communication messages.
• Monitoring humanitarian developments, including disease outbreaks and malnutrition trends, and providing communication alerts.
• Coordinating communication efforts related to project launches, closures, and operational changes.
• Acting as an MSF spokesperson when required.
• Supporting team development, recruitment, and capacity-building initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess a university degree in Journalism, Communication, Development Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.

MSF requires candidates to have:

• At least four years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or public relations.
• Previous experience working with MSF or other international humanitarian organizations.
• Strong understanding of media relations and strategic communications.
• Excellent English language proficiency, while knowledge of Hausa will be considered an advantage.

Experience in photography, video production, Adobe Creative Suite, crisis communication, and social media management will also be beneficial.

Humanitarian Focus

MSF said the successful candidate will help raise awareness about underreported humanitarian crises, strengthen public engagement, and support advocacy efforts around healthcare challenges affecting communities in Nigeria.

The organization also noted that the role may require travel to field locations, sometimes at short notice, depending on operational needs.
