The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has announced a vacancy for the position of Procurement Officer (P-3) in Abuja, Nigeria, as part of its efforts to strengthen procurement systems and support agrifood programmes across the region.

The position, listed under Job ID 2600811, is open for applications until May 6, 2026, and offers a fixed-term contract of one year, with the possibility of extension.

Role Overview

FAO said the Procurement Officer will play a key role in ensuring that procurement of goods, works, and services is carried out in line with international best practices and the principle of “best value for money.”

The successful candidate will also oversee procurement units across FAO decentralized offices in Nigeria and Niger, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and transparency in procurement processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage procurement activities for goods and services
  • Prepare tender documents and oversee solicitation processes (RFQs, ITBs, RFPs, EOIs)
  • Conduct bid evaluations, contract negotiations, and supplier selection
  • Provide procurement advice to programme teams and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with FAO procurement policies and standards
  • Monitor procurement activities and prepare reports
  • Conduct market research and analyze supplier trends
  • Support procurement audits and risk management processes
  • Lead and supervise procurement teams within the office

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have an advanced university degree in fields such as Law, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related disciplines, along with at least five years of relevant experience in procurement, including public sector procurement.

Alternatively, candidates with a first degree must have at least seven years of experience and professional certification such as CIPS or equivalent.

Strong knowledge of international procurement standards, contract management, and public procurement systems is required.

Fluency in English is mandatory, while working knowledge of another FAO official language, particularly French, is considered essential.
