World Bank Announces Financial Management Specialist Vacancy in Abuja
The World Bank has announced a vacancy for the position of Financial Management Specialist in Abuja, Nigeria, offering qualified professionals an opportunity to contribute to development projects and public financial management initiatives across the country.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing fiduciary assurance for World Bank-financed operations in Nigeria while ensuring compliance with the institution’s financial management policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The Financial Management Specialist will serve as a core member of project teams, working closely with Task Team Leaders, government counterparts, and other stakeholders throughout the project cycle.
Among other duties, the specialist will:
- Assess financial management systems and capacities of implementing entities for new World Bank-funded projects.
- Monitor compliance with World Bank financial management policies and procedures.
- Review project financial reports, expenditure statements, and audited financial statements.
- Provide training and capacity-building support to project teams and government agencies.
- Participate in project preparation, implementation support missions, and portfolio reviews.
- Monitor project financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Contribute to analytical work related to public financial management, corporate financial reporting, and governance of state-owned enterprises.
The role will also involve regular engagement with government institutions and stakeholders to strengthen accountability, transparency, and financial oversight within development programs.
Qualifications and Requirements
The World Bank is seeking candidates with:
- A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA or CPA, with membership in a recognized professional accountancy organization affiliated with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
- At least five years of relevant experience in financial management, auditing, public administration, development organizations, or related sectors.
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles, standards, and systems.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English.
Desired Competencies
The organization said successful applicants should demonstrate strong teamwork, client orientation, accountability, business judgment, and decision-making abilities.
Knowledge of public financial management systems, corporate financial reporting frameworks, and governance of state-owned enterprises will be considered an advantage.
