Wife of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Dies After US-Israeli Strikes – Iranian State Media
The wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has died after reportedly succumbing to injuries sustained during recent U.S.-Israeli airstrikes, according to Iranian state media.
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, 79, had been in a coma since Saturday’s strikes, which also reportedly killed Khamenei. Iranian state television outlet Press TV confirmed her death on Monday.
Israeli outlet The Times of Israel reported that Khojasteh had remained unconscious following the attacks and noted that she married Khamenei in 1964.
Escalating Conflict
The reported deaths come amid a dramatic escalation between Iran, the United States and Israel. Over the weekend, U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian targets following weeks of heightened tensions.
Shortly after the strikes, Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, further expanding the scope of the conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Khamenei’s death on Saturday via his Truth Social platform.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead,” Trump wrote, describing the strike as “justice” for victims of alleged Iranian-backed actions globally.
Iranian authorities have not independently confirmed details of Khamenei’s reported death beyond state media coverage, and the broader situation remains fluid.
U.S. Military Casualties Rise
In a statement posted on X, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the number of U.S. service members killed in action during the operation has risen to four.
“The fourth service member, who was seriously wounded during Iran’s initial attacks, eventually succumbed to their injuries,” CENTCOM said, adding that major combat operations remain ongoing.
Three other U.S. service members had previously been reported killed over the weekend.
Regional and Global Impact
The strikes and subsequent retaliation mark one of the most significant military confrontations involving Iran, Israel and the United States in recent years, raising fears of a broader regional war.
Diplomatic channels are reportedly under strain as international leaders call for de-escalation. Meanwhile, global markets and security agencies remain on high alert as the conflict continues to unfold.
