Suspended Abia Health Commisioner, Ngozi Okoronkwo, Rsigns

Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the suspended Abia State Commissioner for Health, has tendered her resignation letter to Governor Alex Otti, effective immediately. This brings the total number of commissioners who have resigned in the past week to three.
Okoronkwo’s resignation comes after being suspended on June 10, 2024, due to alleged “gross misconduct” involving lack of transparency and financial mismanagement. An investigation was launched, but the findings have not been made public.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, confirmed the resignation and thanked Okoronkwo for her services to the state. Governor Otti wished her well in her future endeavors and reiterated his commitment to transforming Abia State.

This resignation follows the simultaneous resignations of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Chima Oriaku, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor Monica Ironkwe, on July 18, 2024. No reasons have been given for the resignations.
The series of resignations has raised questions about the stability of Governor Otti’s cabinet and the underlying reasons for the departures.
