Just 24 Hours to Go, ADC Yet to Secure Abuja Venue for National Convention
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing uncertainty over its National Convention venue in Abuja, just 24 hours before the scheduled event.
Party sources revealed that a formal request had been submitted to the office of the Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking approval to use Eagle Square. Although the request was acknowledged, no official response has been communicated.
Alternative Venue Attempts Fail
Efforts by the party to secure an alternative venue at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium were also unsuccessful. ADC officials reportedly sought access to the Velodrome within the stadium complex but were denied entry after multiple engagements with relevant authorities.
Sources within the party further claimed that several privately owned event centres in Abuja declined to host the convention. The refusals were allegedly linked to concerns about possible repercussions or pressure from government authorities.
Convention to Proceed as Planned
Despite the setbacks, the ADC leadership has maintained that the National Convention will proceed as scheduled on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Abuja.
The party emphasized that it had already notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with electoral guidelines, reaffirming its commitment to holding the convention as planned.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the FCT Minister’s office regarding the venue approval request.
