“It’s Satanic” Muslim Group Demands Ban On Movie Featuring Nancy Isime

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called for an immediate ban on a new movie that portrays Muslim women in purdah committing crimes such as bank robbery while armed with dangerous weapons. The group describes the film as “satanic, repugnant, and provocative” and claims it aims to portray Muslim women as criminals with a violent proclivity.

In a statement released on July 25, 2024, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Executive Director of MURIC, warned that the film could incite public hostility towards Muslim women and set Nigeria on fire if urgent action is not taken by the relevant authorities.

MURIC’s call for a ban is part of a broader resistance to what they see as ongoing attacks on Muslim practices and symbols. The group believes the film is part of a plot to stop Muslim women from wearing hijab and niqab.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has been urged to take necessary action to ban the film. MURIC has assured Nigerian Muslims that their concerns are being addressed and urged them to remain calm and not resort to violence.
