DSS Re-Arraigns Abubakar Malami, Son Over Alleged Terrorism Charges
The Department of State Services (DSS) has re-arraigned former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and his son, Abdulaziz, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on amended charges bordering on alleged terrorism and unlawful possession of firearms.
At the resumed hearing, counsel to the DSS, Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), informed the court that an amended charge had been filed to replace the earlier one. He subsequently applied to withdraw the initial charge and requested that the new charge be read to the defendants for fresh pleas.
Defence counsel, Shaibu Aruwa (SAN), confirmed receipt of the amended charge and did not oppose the application, paving the way for the re-arraignment.
The defendants were alleged to have, in December 2025, at Geeze Phase II area of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area in Kebbi State, prepared to commit acts of terrorism by unlawfully possessing a Sturm Magnum 17 – 0101 firearm, 16 Redstar AAA live cartridges, and 27 expended rounds without a valid licence.
According to the amended charge, the alleged offences contravene provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, specifically Sections 29 and 26, which deal with preparation and conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism.
When the charges were read, both Abubakar Malami and his son pleaded not guilty.
Following their plea, the DSS counsel requested a date for trial commencement, while the defence urged the court to allow the defendants to continue on the bail earlier granted.
With no objection from the prosecution, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the defendants should remain on the bail conditions earlier granted on February 27, noting that they had complied fully.
The case was subsequently adjourned to May 26 and June 15, 2026, for trial.
