Achieving SDGs: JCI Abuja Unity Advocates for Quality Education and Climate Change Mitigation

In a bid to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ahead of 2030, the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Abuja Unity Chapter has emphasized the importance of quality education and climate change mitigation.

The organization recently held its 2024 Spelling Bee Competition and “GO GREEN” project, aimed at promoting educational development and environmental sustainability.

The Spelling Bee Competition, which involved 13 Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary Schools in Abuja, aimed to instill social values and promote education as a tool for societal impact.

JCI Senator Morufatu Olabisi Aniso, the charter president of the chapter emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the government and citizens to improve education in Nigeria. The Spelling Bee Competition (MOA Spelling Bee Competition) which is named after her is held annually to promote education as a tool for societal impact through the organization.

The exercise have pupils who emerge as winner go home with different prices including Scholarships.

THE GO GREEN PROJECT

Meanwhile, the “GO GREEN” project trained students of Government Science Secondary School, Maitama , Abuja on tree planting and replenishing vegetation. The project aims to sustain the struggle for a global eco-friendly environment and promote sustainable living.

JCI Abuja Unity President, JCIN Amb. Blessing Jegede emphasized the importance of collective action in protecting the environment and encouraged youths to take an active role in promoting environmental sustainability.

The event also featured keynote addresses and presentations from JCI members and students, highlighting the need for climate change mitigation and sustainable practices.

The organization called for support from the government, local, and international NGOs to expand its projects and promote quality education and environmental sustainability in Nigeria.

The highlight of the project was the planting of trees by JCI Abuja Unity members and students of Government Science Secondary School, Maitama , Abuja.

Through these efforts, JCI Abuja Unity Chapter is contributing to the achievement of the SDGs, specifically Quality Education (SDG 4) and Climate Action (SDG 13). By inspiring pupils to embrace quality education and sustainability, the organization is helping to build a brighter future for Nigeria and the world.
