Nigeria-US Joint Strikes Kill 175 ISIS Terrorists, Eliminate Top ISWAP Commanders – DHQ
The Nigerian military has announced major breakthroughs in ongoing joint counterterrorism operations with the United States Africa Command, revealing that at least 175 ISIS terrorists have been eliminated in coordinated strikes across North East Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said the operations targeted ISIS strongholds, logistics bases, weapons caches and financial networks sustaining terrorist activities in the region.
According to the DHQ, the joint military offensive has also led to the killing of several high-profile terrorist commanders, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as one of the most significant ISIS operatives globally.
Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, stated that al-Minuki was deeply involved in ISIS external operations, coordinating terrorist financing, recruitment, logistics and attack planning targeting Nigerians and civilians worldwide.
The military said his elimination represents a major setback for ISIS operations and command structures.
Other terrorist leaders reportedly killed during the operations include Abd-al Wahhab, an ISWAP senior leader linked to coordinating attacks and propaganda activities, Abu Musa al-Mangawi, another top ISWAP member, and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, who managed ISWAP’s media production operations and was considered a close associate of al-Minuki.
The DHQ added that the joint strikes have destroyed terrorist checkpoints, military equipment and operational hubs used by ISIS-linked fighters.
“The joint operations will continue to hunt down and destroy those who threaten our nation and regional stability,” the statement added.
The Nigerian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to sustaining aggressive counterterrorism operations in collaboration with international partners to restore lasting peace and security in the country’s troubled North East region.
