Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba Declares for 2027 Presidency on ADC Platform
A former Minister of State for Education and two-time member of the House of Representatives, Dr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Nwajiuba, a seasoned lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), enters the race with what he describes as a “competence-first” approach to leadership.
His declaration marks the entry of a candidate positioning experience, policy depth, and institutional knowledge as central pillars of national governance.
Speaking on his ambition, Nwajiuba said Nigeria’s current socio-economic and political challenges require leadership anchored on clear policy direction, effective negotiation skills, and strong grassroots political organisation, rather than political rhetoric.
According to him, his years of service across the legislative and executive arms of government, as well as his leadership roles in key national institutions, have equipped him with a broad understanding of governance, public finance, and policy implementation.
The former minister is expected to prioritise education reform, economic stabilisation, and the rebuilding of public trust in government institutions as core themes of his campaign.
Political observers say Nwajiuba’s emergence on the ADC platform adds a new dimension to the evolving 2027 presidential race, especially as smaller political parties intensify efforts to offer Nigerians alternative leadership choices outside the dominant political blocs.
With his declaration, Nwajiuba joins a growing list of aspirants seeking to shape national discourse ahead of the next general election, as debates around competence, experience, and inclusive governance continue to gain momentum.
