BREAKING: Court Upholds Julius Abure as Labour Party Chairman
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has declared Julius Abure as the legitimate Chairman of the Labour Party. This verdict validates the Abure-led leadership and the March 2024 Nnewi convention that produced the national leadership.
The court’s decision overrides INEC’s earlier stance that Abure’s leadership was invalid. Justice Nwite ordered INEC to recognize Abure as the substantive chairman, granting the Labour Party all rights and privileges due to a duly registered political party.
This development comes after INEC argued that the Labour Party’s national convention violated the Nigerian Constitution and Electoral Act. The electoral body claimed Abure’s tenure expired in June 2024 and that the party failed to meet legal requirements for holding the convention.

The Labour Party had challenged their exclusion from INEC’s refresher training for uploading party agents ahead of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections. With this ruling, Abure’s leadership has been reaffirmed, paving the way for the party’s participation in upcoming elections.
