Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen left fans talking after choosing not to celebrate his crucial Champions League goal at the Allianz Stadium — a decision he later revealed was out of deep respect for his former coach, Luciano Spalletti.
Osimhen found the back of the net in UEFA Champions League action as Galatasaray fell 3-2 on the night but progressed 7-5 on aggregate to reach the round of 16. While the goal added another highlight to his impressive European campaign, it was his muted reaction that stole the spotlight.
Despite the high stakes, the Super Eagles forward remained composed after scoring, opting against his trademark celebration.

Osimhen later explained that his decision was influenced by his admiration and gratitude toward Spalletti, under whom he enjoyed the most successful spell of his career at Napoli.
The pair famously led Napoli to a historic Serie A title, cementing a strong bond between player and coach.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Osimhen said:
“Spalletti pulled the best out of me at Napoli. He cared so much that he slept at the training ground. I am in debt to him. I owe him so much!”
His emotional comments highlighted the profound respect he continues to hold for the manager, even as they now find themselves on opposing sides in European competition.
Juventus Links and Transfer Speculation
Osimhen’s public admiration for Spalletti — and his openness about Juventus being a “privilege” to play for — has intensified speculation about a potential move to Turin.
The striker previously confirmed that discussions had taken place during the tenure of former sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. Adding fuel to the rumors, Osimhen recently shared a photo alongside Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, describing himself as “lucky to have seen one of the best of all time.”
However, a reunion in Serie A appears complicated.
The “Anti-Italy” Penalty Clause
When Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis approved Osimhen’s €75 million transfer to Galatasaray in 2025, a strict “anti-Italy” penalty clause was reportedly inserted into the agreement.
The clause, valid for 24 months, would require Galatasaray to pay Napoli €70 million if Osimhen were sold to an Italian club within the first year of his contract. That figure reportedly drops to €50 million in the second year. Napoli also maintains a 10 percent sell-on clause.
This means any potential return to Serie A before September 1, 2027, would involve enormous financial implications.
Financial Realities
Beyond the transfer fee complications, Osimhen’s salary presents another major hurdle. The forward reportedly earns a fixed €15 million annually, with bonuses capable of raising his earnings to €21 million net per year.
With Italian clubs navigating stricter financial conditions and the expiration of previous tax benefits for foreign players, meeting those demands would be extremely challenging.
For now, Osimhen remains focused on his Champions League campaign with Galatasaray. But his refusal to celebrate against Spalletti served as a powerful reminder that football is not just business it is also about loyalty, gratitude, and respect.
