CAF Confederation Cup: Kwara United Fall to Kotoko, Abia Warriors Draw with Djoliba
Nigerian clubs had mixed fortunes in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round matches on Sunday.
In Accra, Kwara United put up a spirited fight but lost 4-3 to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko. Emmanuel Antwi, Albert Amoah (brace), and Joseph Ablorh found the net for Kotoko, while Johnmark Aule (brace) and Shola Abdulraheem scored for Kwara United.
The reverse fixture is scheduled for Saturday at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, where Kwara United will be hoping to overturn the deficit and secure qualification.
Meanwhile, Abia Warriors were forced to a 1-1 draw at home against Mali’s Djoliba. Emeka Obioma gave the hosts an early lead in the 20th minute after connecting with a fine cross from Jibrin Faiz, but Djoliba struck back three minutes from time to snatch an away goal advantage.
Both Nigerian sides will now need strong second-leg performances to keep their continental campaigns alive.
