Desmond Elliot Withdraws From Lagos APC Primary Over Alleged Intimidation Of Supporters
Desmond Elliot has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere I constituency seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, citing alleged intimidation and exclusion of his supporters from the voting venue.
The actor-turned-politician announced his withdrawal on Wednesday at the Paddington Mini Stadium along Western Avenue, where the APC primary election was taking place.
In a video shared on his X handle, Elliot accused some party officials and security operatives of preventing his supporters from accessing the venue despite repeated appeals.
“And of course, in all zones, they’ve been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward. If you go outside, those are my people outside,” he said.
According to Elliot, many of his supporters were allegedly denied entry into the venue, making it impossible for them to participate in the primary process.
“They’ve not been allowed,” he stated shortly before formally withdrawing from the contest.
Following the announcement, supporters of the lawmaker staged a peaceful protest before leaving the venue alongside him.
“Good luck. Thank you, and God bless you,” Elliot told party members as he exited the primary ground.
The former lawmaker said his decision to withdraw was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order, stressing that political contests should not lead to violence or loss of lives.
He also called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in the conduct of party primaries across Lagos State.
Elliot represented Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly and has remained a prominent figure within the APC in Lagos politics.
