Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has issued an emotional public apology to Nigerians following backlash over his previous remarks on insecurity and governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a viral video circulating online, Afolayan was seen kneeling as he expressed regret for earlier comments in which he appeared to downplay the country’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship. The actor had previously praised the Tinubu administration and suggested that he was personally unaffected by the prevailing difficulties, a stance that drew widespread criticism.
Reversing his position, Afolayan acknowledged that the government is not doing enough to tackle insecurity across the country. He cited a personal experience involving the kidnapping of his best friend’s mother, who was reportedly held for ransom, as a turning point that reshaped his perspective.
“I was wrong,” he admitted, emphasizing that his earlier statements did not reflect the realities faced by millions of Nigerians. He also clarified that he did not receive any financial incentive for supporting the government, stressing that his views at the time were personal.
The actor further announced his complete withdrawal from political commentary, stating that he would focus on his career and avoid public discourse on governance issues going forward.
