Police Rescue Ex-Power Minister Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons, Neutralise Two Kidnap Suspects

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a coordinated rescue operation that led to the death of two suspected kidnappers.

The victims, including the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, were rescued alive during a late-night operation carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, according to police sources.

Police sources disclosed that the rescue followed days of intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers after the victims were abducted on June 3 while travelling to drop the children at school in Ibadan, Oyo State.

During the operation, security operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle. Two members of the criminal gang were neutralised, while two firearms were recovered from the scene.

According to security sources, sustained intelligence tracking forced the kidnappers into a confrontation with police operatives, ultimately leading to the safe rescue of the victims. Authorities confirmed that no ransom payment was involved in the operation.

Security agencies have continued combing surrounding forests and hideouts in search of other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the exchange of gunfire. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

The abduction had sparked widespread concern across Oyo State and beyond, given the profile of the victims and the recent rise in kidnapping incidents in the region. The victims were kidnapped around 7:30 a.m. on June 3 while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her twin sons to school in Ibadan.

Prior to the rescue, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had visited Adelabu and assured him that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the safe return of his sister and nephews.

The successful operation has been welcomed by residents and security stakeholders, who described it as a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and violent crimes in the state. Authorities have vowed to sustain ongoing efforts to apprehend all remaining members of the gang and ensure they face justice.
