ABUJA, Nigeria – Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has congratulated the Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, on his 63rd birthday, praising his contributions to infrastructure development and describing him as a symbol of a new political awakening for the Igbo people.

In a statement issued on Friday ahead of Umahi’s birthday on July 25, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization commended the former Ebonyi State governor for what it described as his impactful leadership at the Federal Ministry of Works.

The group also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Umahi as Minister of Works, noting that he is the first person of Igbo extraction to hold the position since the ministry was established in 1951.

According to Ohanaeze, the appointment represents a historic milestone and reflects national recognition of the competence and leadership capacity of the Igbo people in advancing Nigeria’s development.

The organization said Umahi has introduced a fresh approach to infrastructure delivery through his supervision of major federal road projects and advocacy for the use of cement technology in road construction to improve durability and sustainability.

It further noted that the minister’s regular visits to project sites and direct engagement with contractors and engineers demonstrate his commitment to ensuring quality execution and timely completion of critical infrastructure projects.

Ohanaeze also said the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda has brought renewed attention to longstanding road challenges across different parts of the country, particularly in the South-East.

The organization argued that ongoing rehabilitation and construction of federal roads in the region could strengthen economic activities, improve connectivity, and restore confidence in equitable national development.

Describing Umahi as a “professor in practice” in infrastructure transformation, Ohanaeze said his leadership style combines discipline, technical expertise, and dedication to public service.

The group urged the minister to remain focused, humble, and committed to his responsibilities, adding that public office holders are ultimately judged by the impact of their service and the legacy they leave behind.

Ohanaeze also reaffirmed that the aspirations of the Igbo people remain centered on development, inclusion, and national progress, while calling on Nigerian leaders to promote unity, responsible leadership, and sustained investment in infrastructure.

The congratulatory message was jointly signed by the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the Deputy Secretary General, Professor Chibuikeya Achoakawa.
