JAMB: Over 1.5 Million Candidates Score Below 200 in 2025 UTME

Abuja, Nigeria – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with a staggering 1.5 million candidates scoring below 200 out of a total of 1,955,069 who sat for the exam.

According to the board, only 420,415 candidates scored above 200, representing about 21.5% of the total number of candidates. The results also showed that less than 1% of the candidates scored above 300.

The board noted that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to sit for the exam to demonstrate their exceptional abilities, but only 467 of them (1.16%) scored high enough to meet the threshold for exceptional ability.

JAMB also revealed that 97 candidates were involved in examination malpractices, while 2,157 others are currently under investigation for suspected malpractices. Additionally, 71,701 candidates were absent from the exam.

A breakdown of the results shows that:
4,756 candidates scored 320 and above (0.24%)
7,658 candidates scored between 300-319 (0.39%)
73,441 candidates scored between 250-299 (3.76%)
334,560 candidates scored between 200-249 (17.11%)
983,187 candidates scored between 160-199 (50.29%)

The board will hold a press conference later this week to announce individual results and facilitate result checking. Some results, including those of blind candidates and others in the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), are still being processed.
